RAVI
COLTRANE RETURNS WITH “IN FLUX”
Savoy Jazz Debut Set For Release February 22
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Santa Monica, CA—Savoy Jazz is proud
to announce Ravi Coltrane’s first project for the historic
jazz label. Titled “In Flux”, the all new recording
features the tenor saxophone player with his quartet. The two year-old
ensemble includes pianist Luis Perdomo, bassist Drew Gress and drummer
EJ Strickland. “In Flux” is scheduled for release February
22.
Commenting on the sound of “In Flux”, Ravi notes, “It’s
about what felt good and excited us—what captured the spontaneous,
improvisational energy, which is at the heart of what jazz is.”
The project is the true result of a working band, as the group recorded
between stints on the road over several months. ”That pace
removed the feeling of having to do everything so quickly and let
us be more relaxed. The result is by far the strongest work I’ve
done to date.”
Complete track list is as follows: “The Message”, “Coincide”,
“Variations III”, “Away”, “Blending
Times”, “Leaving Avignon”, “Dear Alice”,
“Angular Realms”, “Scram Vamp”, “Variations
I”, “United”, “For Zoe.”
With the signing of Ravi Coltrane, Savoy Jazz continues its commitment
to nurturing vital jazz talent. Savoy’s relaunch in 2004 saw
the release of A-list projects which included new recordings by
Andy Bey, James Moody, Hubert Laws and Fly featuring Mark Turner,
Larry Grenadier and Jeff Ballard.
Says Steve Vining, President of the Savoy Label Group, “Ravi
Coltrane is a powerful addition to the Savoy Jazz roster. His playing
and musical ideas have reached a point where he’s truly one
of the leading voices of his generation and he’s making some
of the most individual music out there. We look forward to working
with Ravi to bring his music to a broad audience and to take his
career to the next level.”
Savoy Jazz is a unit of the Savoy Label Group (SLG). SLG is the
North American unit of Columbia Music Entertainment (formerly Nippon
Columbia), the oldest music company in Japan. Newly reorganized
and now headed by Chairman Strauss Zelnick, Columbia Music Entertainment
has re-emerged as a significant creative force with a stable of
newly signed platinum-selling artists. |
