Pre Release Advance Press From Feature Story A New Mix
By John Murph

“…..the newly reactivated Savoy Jazz label is also releasing a Charlie Parker remix project……..”

“…but there are certain artists that we know we just can’t go there, like John Coltrane and Louis Armstrong.” Savoy Jazz does go “there” with the upcoming Bird Up!, a wildcard of a project in which Charlie Parker recordings are remixed by Dan the Automator and the X-ecutioners, among others. Also aboard this project are disparate artists such as Dr. John, Me’Shell Ndegeocello and Kronos Quartet playing on top of the remixes. “It’s more than a remix project; it’s more like a tribute or an uprising in the name of Charlie Parker,” says Bird Up! Producer Matthew Backer. “Everyone in modern-day music has Charlie Parker to thank. Not just the jazz community, but popular music across the board – anything that’s about freedom. They carry the torch that Bird lit. The project represents that fire. Its’ main goal is to expose cats to Bird and start a whole new revolution in his honor.”
