The Romantic Billy Eckstine
Billy Eckstine aka "Mr. B" (07/08/14 - 03/08/93) was a magnificent romantic baritone balladeer to the general public. To jazz fans however, his major contribution was leading one of the first great bebop big bands. Passing through this bands portals were many of the greatest jazz musicians in history, like Dizzy Gillespie, Fats Navaro, Miles Davis, Kenny Dorham, Charlie Parker, Dexter Gordon, Gene Ammons, etc., etc., an astounding, unequaled array of talent by itself combined with Mr. B's classy, authoritative, deft delivery. |
